OpenAI has officially launched ChatGPT Agent, a powerful new feature that allows ChatGPT to not only respond to questions but take action on your behalf. Available to Pro, Plus, and Team users, this new agentic system turns ChatGPT into a hands-on assistant that can plan, reason, and complete real-world tasks using tools like your calendar, email, browser, and even code execution environments.
ChatGPT Agent is OpenAI’s bold step into what’s called “agentic AI.” That means the AI doesn’t just chat, it acts like an autonomous assistant. Whether it’s booking your flights, creating a business presentation, analyzing your data, or summarizing documents, the Agent handles complex tasks across multiple steps, tools, and data sources.
OpenAI has integrated several of its technologies—including Operator (for web interaction), Deep Research (for advanced synthesis), and ChatGPT’s conversational abilities into a single cohesive Agent. This allows it to perform tasks in the background while you stay focused on your work.
To activate the feature, users simply select “Agent Mode” in ChatGPT. From there, you can prompt it just like before but now it can take the next steps for you.
