Kaligandaki Gorge Hydropower Project will be built in between rural municipalities of Mustang and Myagdi district, Nepal with an investment of 40 billion rupees. The project aims to generate 180 megawatts of electricity from this hydropower and construction is expected to be completed within 5 years after the construction process is started.
According to the approved environmental impact assessment of the project, it was mentioned that 831.06 GW of electricity will be produced annually. A supplementary environmental impact assessment has already been prepared for Kaligandaki Gorge Hydropower Project. Now, the project is said to generate 1036.21 gigawatts of electricity annually.
Triveni Energy Private Limited took over the entire ownership of Kaligandaki Gorge Hydropower Project from the previous promoter – Hydro Solutions. The project was surveyed for the first time in 2063 B.S. with the aim of generating electricity from Kaligandaki river. Various hydropower companies tried to advance the project after the survey was done, but it could not be developed due to lack of investors and funds.
Triveni Energy Private Limited has already signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Nepal Electricity Authority in February 2023 for the construction of the semi-reservoir project. And the construction of the project would be started after arranging necessary investments.
According to a company personal, 6 km long tunnel having a diameter of 5 meters will be constructed for the project. The hydropower projects will have 4 pelton turbines and 4 electric generators installed at the project site having a capacity of 53 MVA. Around 717 million units of electricity would be produced in the rainy season and 338 million units in the dry season by this project.
